The Squirt: Lively Atmosphere and Hearty Food
Must Eats: Sausage Rolls with Vella Habanero Jack
After an exhilarating day of touring through Sonoma, California on segways, our tour guide, Hunt, invited us to come to Murphy’s Irish Pub to try BBQ’s Oysters. He is the general manager there in the evenings. On Tuesday evenings they feature live music outside. Murphy’s is definitely a gathering spot for the locals of Sonoma. When you step inside, you feel like you really are in Ireland.
Ren and I were really hungry, but we really wanted to enjoy a lot of different items on the appetizer menu. Well, we certainly did what we set out to do. Our very friendly and warm server for the evening was Lucia. She really let us have a relaxing experience and never rushed us.
For our beverage for the evening, we chose a refreshing Kenwood Vineyards Vintage Table white wine. Hunt really wanted us to try the BBQ’d Oysters. I had tried oysters in the past a few times, but they were never on my hit parade. Ren had never tried them before, so this was a big event. Hunt assured us that we would like them, so we trusted him Our first course was an order of eight Oysters. Four of them were with Murphy’s homemade barbecue sauce and four were with their parmesan garlic lemon butter sauce. We were pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Ren still needs to grow more accustomed to oysters, but I really enjoyed them, especially the BBQ’d ones, so much that we ordered 4 more of them.
Our next course was truly the most amazing one out of all them. We ordered the Sausage Rolls with Vella Habanero Jack. Oh wow! They were truly delicious and fit right into the “Stick to your Ribs” comfort food category. The crust was amazing, the habanero cheese really added a kick to them and the sausage was top notch. These sausage rolls made it to our Must Eats for this restaurant.
Lucia told us that we would really enjoy the Homemade Buttermilk Onion Rings, being that they really are home made. Well, she was right. They were delicious! The batter was excellent and the mustard sauce for dipping was addictive.
Lastly, we ordered the Spicy Buffalo Wings, but with barbecue sauce instead of the buffalo sauce, being that we had become addicted to the barbecue sauce from the oysters. They brought the sauce on the side for us, so we could dip. The wings were very tasty. We really like their barbecue sauce.
Needless to say, we ate a lot of great food that night at Murphy’s. It was great to see Hunt again and to meet Lucia. We even took pictures of all of us after our meal. Thank you, Hunt and Lucia. We really saw why Murphy’s is such a great gathering spot for Sonoma locals.
