The Squirt: The Right Place for Garlic Lovers
Must Eats: Prime Rib
Ren and I were fortunate to enjoy a fantastic garlic themed dinner at The Stinking Rose in San Francisco. This is the brother restaurant of The Stinking Rose that we reviewed in Beverly Hills last year. (Here’s a handy link for you, in case you missed it, or if you just want to see more yummy pictures of garlic-y food!) For those not familiar with the restaurant, it is a garlic lovers paradise! Literally everything on the menu has garlic of some form in it! We really like this location just as much as the other one, but this one has a little element that sets it apart from the other: a small patio dining area upstairs in the center of the restaurant. If you are lucky enough to get there at a good time, there are three small tables up for grabs there, so plan accordingly. Also, be prepared to make reservations, because this place gets packed. After you taste the food you will understand why.
Our server for the evening was Alicia. She was really fun loving and enhanced our experience with her great personality and efficiency. The weather was perfect so the outdoor patio was the perfect place to be. After taking our order for a great chianti wine, Amanda brought over dinner rolls and a totally wonderful garlic dipping sauce which had chopped raw fresh garlic, olive oil and fresh chopped parsley. Oh wow, did this sauce pack a punch….a lasting one at that! . The taste was exploding with garlic flavor and paired with the dippage of the rolls in the garlic infused olive oil was phenomenal!
Ren and I ordered two entrees and, as usual, shared both. The first was the Garlic Roasted Prime Rib. The prime rib was deeeeelicious, and had lots of garlic flavor, and plenty of roasted garlic on top. It was accompanied by super yummy garlic yukon gold mashed potatoes as well as some creamed swiss chard. We had wanted to order this in Beverly Hills last year, but we had so many yummy choices, we couldn’t fit it in. Man, we were glad we ordered this this time- it was so full of garlic-y goodness!
Our second entree was the Garlic Encrusted Baby Back Ribs. We always enjoy baby back ribs in the many restaurants that we frequent, but when they are encrusted in garlic, we just can’t get enough! They also came with garlic yukon mashed potatoes, so we were carbing out for the night – but since we walked the many hills of San Francisco to get to the restaurant, we figured we could treat ourselves! Hee hee
Towards the end of our meal, we started chatting with the family at the table next to us. They were visiting from the East Coast as well, and we were able to share restaurant recommendations with each other for vacations, as well as for when we got home. It was a perfect evening, between the weather, the outdoor patio table, Alicia & our new friends, it just reinforced our decision for a repeat visit to The Stinking Rose, whether in San Francisco, or Beverly Hills!
