Hello TwoSquirts Fans! Happy New Year to all of our readers! We are back after a much needed break over the holidays. We are so excited to bring you a new year of delicious TwoSquirts reviews! Onto our first review of 2011 – and our first in Pennsylvania!
The other day, we had the opportunity to travel to beautiful, Newtown, PA. It was a nice, snowy day, making the picturesque town, even more scenic. Newtown is another very historic town, whose roots can be traced all the way back to 1682! Newtown has some unique claims to fame, such as serving as one of George Washington’s headquarters in the Revolutionary War, as well as having the first theater in the U.S. Of course, they have a lot of yummy restaurants, and we have one to tell you all about – La Stalla!
La Stalla has a unique history of it’s own. La Stalla is actually in a restored barn, originally built in 1929 as part of the Lovett Farm. Although it is no longer a farm, the barn, that once housed dairy cows, has been beautifully restored and transformed into a Tuscan themed, family-style, Italian restaurant. The owners, Marc & Vince, have created a beautiful Italian restaurant, with a unique look, and delicious Italian favorites, most of which can be ordered for “one” or “family-style”!
So, how about we start telling you all about the delicious food!
La Stalla has a large selection of wines to choose from, including a listing of reasonably prices wines, as well as more pricey ones. So to start our Tuscan feast, we opted for a reasonably priced wine. We ordered a 2009 Grayson Cellars Chardonnay, a nice crisp white wine that was a perfect accompaniment to the food that was to follow! First up, was a side of meatballs. The meatballs were soft and magically delicious. The sauce was smooth yet tangy, and went right to the list of one of our favorite tomato sauces in a restaurant!
Ria ordered the Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops. To say that these were some of the best lamb chops we’ve ever had in a restaurant, would NOT be an exaggeration! On the outside, they were nice a crispy, yet, on the inside was delicious tender meat! They were served with some light and fluffy mashed potatoes. It was all so delicious, that Ria gobbled them all up (but not without letting us sample the savory lamb chops, of course!)
We ordered a “family-style” portion of the Pollo Saltimbocca to share. The chicken was perfectly sautéed and was topped with prosciutto, spinach, sage, fontina cheese and served in a light white wine sauce. To say this dish was delicious would be an understatement! It was so fabulous, that we practically devoured the dish! (we were hungry, after all – ok, you got us- we are always hungry! Lol)
Our evening at La Stalla was such a wonderful dining experience. Our servers, as well as the other guests, were all so friendly. The food and wine were delightfully delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the rustic charm of the restaurant. Can the delicious food of La Stalla persuade us to move closer to Newtown to be able to enjoy the food more often? You’ll have to keep reading TwoSquirts Reviews to find out!
