Park & Orchard, East Rutherford, NJ
The Squirt: A good time, with a nostalgic feel!
Must Eats: Short Ribs of Beef
Prices: Moderate
A few weeks ago, our friends, Arlene and Eric, along with Arlene’s mom, Ethel, invited your favorite TwoSquirts, “Roy & Ren”, as well as Roy’s mom, “Ria” out to try one of their favorite restaurants. So on a leisurely Sunday afternoon, we made our way up to East Rutherford, NJ to Park & Orchard. We were a little unfamiliar with the area, but thanks to GPS, we found our way to the restaurant, which seemed to be a little bit off the beaten path!
Since we were meeting for a late lunch/early dinner, when we arrived, we weren’t quite sure if the restaurant was open, as we were literally the first people to arrive. Lol. But it was most certainly open, and apparently, when they are really busy, on a Friday or Saturday night, you may even have to park in a lot they have around the corner, as the sign we saw pointed out!
When Arlene, Eric, & Ethel arrived, we all greeted each other outside, and took the customary photo that they always do with the friends they bring there! We already felt like family! Hee hee. We went inside, and were greeted by the hostess. The restaurant had a 1940′s art deco, nostalgic, type of feel.
There were so many things to choose from on the menu, but we were so hungry, we couldn’t decide on one They had such delicious loaves of bread, we skipped the appetizers and went right to the entrees.
Arlene and Eric both ordered their favorite stir-fry dishes. It is one of the things Park & Orchard is known for. Each one is customizable. Arlene’s wasn’t even on the menu anymore, but they still made it for her! How is that for service?! Ethel likes to try something different every time. This time she opted for the crab cakes, and they were a hit!
Park & Orchard has a little bit of almost all ethnicities of food. So Ria opted for Mexican, and had the cheese enchiladas. They were yummy, but she did wish they had refried beans. The only option was black beans.
As for us, we decided to share two dishes, which the restaurant nicely split each on onto two dishes. Always a nice touch when a restaurant does that for us when they hear us say we are going to share! Our first dish was one of our favorites to order: Chicken Parmesan. It was definitely tasty, but by far our favorite dish was our second one, the Short Ribs of Beef! They were very tender and flavorful, and were served with outstanding, smooth, mashed potatoes!
We had a wonderful, relaxing afternoon, catching up with good friends, and making new ones, all while eating some yummy food! You are sure to enjoy your visit to Park & Orchard too.
