Oishi, Newtown, PA

The other day, Ren and I dined at Oishi in Newtown, PA.  They serve Japanese, Korean and Thai cuisine. We had heard rave reviews about Oishi from our friends who have dined there before, so we decided to give it a TwoSquirts try.  It was definitely a hit with us.  The fact that it is a BYOB establishment, allows you to enjoy a really tasty meal and bring your own favorite libation. P.F. Chang's, Princeton, NJ

A few years ago, we saw a new restaurant going up on U.S. Route One in Princeton. We were giddy with excitement, hoping for some place delectable. Sometime later, we saw the familiar giant horses, and we were soooooooo excited! We KNEW it was P.F. Chang’s! We had been to a few of their other locations, and we were so happy to have one coming near us.  We looked forward to enjoying their delicious modern day Asian food dishes.  To this day, a lot of locals continue to be excited, as the wait can be over two hours on a weekend! Metropolitan Cafe, Freehold, NJ

Metropolitan Cafe, Freehold, NJ

Downtown Freehold sure has changed a lot since it was first incorporated over 300 hundred years ago on October 31, 1693!  Downtown Freehold has maintained it’s historic feel, but has added a modern flare and become a nighttime gathering spot including a few trendy  & traditional restaurants.  Metropolitan Cafe is one of those, that manages to combine the comfort of a traditional American bistro with a hip, sophisticated flare.  We were wowed by some of the Pacific Rim & Latin flavors bursting in the food that comforted us so nicely the evening we visited the Metropolitan Cafe! Hanami, 15 Farber Rd, Princeton, NJ

The Squirt: Elegant Asian BYOB Restaurant with Great Food
Must Eats:  Sliced Chicken with Sweet Basil
Prices: Moderate

Hanami, Princeton, NJ

Hanami, Princeton, NJ

Hanami is an elegant Asian restaurant, located in Princeton, New Jersey. It has a very elegant style and a vast amount of visually appealing accents.

The furnishings at Hanami are very tasteful and classy. There is a sparkly crystal tree in the center of the main dining room that really adds to the elegance of the room.  There are a few additional rooms, as well as a sushi bar. If it is dark outside, and you are able to sit along the windows, you will be able to enjoy the view of the pretty landscaping and lighting outside of your window. Hanami definitely has an upscale feel to it, but the prices are pleasing and the portions are excellent. That is definitely a plus in our book. (more…)

Hotoke Restaurant, Lounge and Sushi Bar 350 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ

Hotoke, Exterior, New Brunswick, NJ

Hotoke, Exterior, New Brunswick, NJ

A couple of nights ago we had a truly terrific exotic experience at Hotoke, in New Brunswick, NJ. Hotoke is an upscale and seductively exciting Asian influenced restaurant. The restaurant reminded us of Tao in Las Vegas with its captivating atmosphere. When you walk in, you see two big doors and do not really know what lies behind the closed doors. As soon as you open them, you are truly awstruck at the sight.  The sight is dramatic, chic and very cosmopolitan. This is the type of restaurant you would see in New York City or Las Vegas.  It’s nice to know we have such a chic and stylish restaurant nearby. (more…)

Woo – The Shoppes at the Palazzo The Palazzo, Las Vegas, NV

Grilled Shishito Peppers, Woo, Las Vegas, NV

Grilled Shishito Peppers

We had a great time at Woo.  We had cocktails and appetizers and really just chilled for a bit.  They have a really good selection of small plate entrees to choose from.  One can have a little taste of several items if one chooses, and we did. Our server for the experience was Jill.  She reminded us of the comedienne, Chelsea Handler, and really had a sunny disposition.  She really gave us great menu suggestions and we had a great time chatting with her. Tao, Interior, The Venetian, Las Vegas, NV

Tao was a really excellent experience. Even the entrance is cool and it only gets better as you continue to walk further inside. The atmosphere is amazing and one can see why it attracts celebrities. It is a feast for the eyes.  We had a really great server, named Zaban, who actually grew up in New Jersey. He was friendly and fun and made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. We ordered an excellent Sauvignon Blanc wine from their extensive wine list. (more…)

Sushi Samba – The Shoppes at the Palazzo The Palazzo, Las Vegas, NV

Sushi Samba, Las Vegas, NV

Sushi Samba, Las Vegas, NV

When we saw Sushi Samba, while walking in the Shoppes at the Palazzo, I was so excited. It has always been a favorite restaurant of mine. I had been to Sushi Samba, a few years ago, in South Beach, Florida and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I really wanted Ren to try it and this was our opportunity! Their menu is really unique; combining essences of Brazilian, Peruvian and Japanese culinary influences. Our server was great and so accommodating.  He really enjoyed making suggestions on what we might like. (more…)

Shogun 27 Kendall Park, NJ

Shogun 27, Kendall Park, NJ

Shogun 27, Kendall Park, NJ

The other night we went to our other favorite Japanese restaurant, Shogun 27, located in Kendall Park. Shogun 27 has an intimate relaxing atmosphere.  It is nicely decorated and has a cozy feel to it.  It is the perfect place to go to after a stressful day at the office. Shogun 27 does have its hopping nights, however, when the bar area becomes crowded and the hibachi side of the restaurant is packed with customers. We tend to like to go there between Monday and Thursday when it is more tranquil and conducive to conversation. (more…)

Fuji Hibachi Steak House and Sushi Bar Dayton, NJ

Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, Dayton, NJ

Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, Dayton, NJ

Fuji is a friendly BYOB Japanese restaurant located in the Liberty strip mall on Rt. 522 in Dayton, NJ.  Don’t let the outside appearance fool you, because you are sure to have a fun experience inside.  This is a great hometown restaurant with a really warm and family like staff.  They really go out of their way to greet you and remember your name for the next times you come in.  Ren and I always have special requests, and each server will make a point of remembering what they were the next time we have him or her. At Fuji, we always eat hibachi but there is also a sushi bar area as well.
