Must Eats: Guacamole & the Short Rib Enchilada
Prices: Moderate to Expensive
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of a leisurely stroll through the streets of Newtown, PA, enjoying their Second Annual “Takin’ it to the Street” Summerfest block party. Not only was the block party a blast, but we also came across Lilly’s Cocina Loca. We peeked in and saw a cute little Mexican getaway, in the heart of Newtown, on Sycamore street. As it was still early, and we were enjoying the street festival, we made reservations for dinner. (more…)
The Squirt: Classic favorites, with unique twists!
Must Eats: “Twice Cooked” Cuban Steak
Downtown Freehold sure has changed a lot since it was first incorporated over 300 hundred years ago on October 31, 1693! Downtown Freehold has maintained it’s historic feel, but has added a modern flare and become a nighttime gathering spot including a few trendy & traditional restaurants. Metropolitan Cafe is one of those, that manages to combine the comfort of a traditional American bistro with a hip, sophisticated flare. We were wowed by some of the Pacific Rim & Latin flavors bursting in the food that comforted us so nicely the evening we visited the Metropolitan Cafe! (more…)
The Squirt: Endless feast of savory meats!
Must Eats: Chicken wrapped with Bacon; Pork Tenderloin
Prices: Expensive (but worth it!)
Ren and I had a truly fantastic dinner at Espetus Churrascaria, in downtown San Francisco. The restaurant is a real gem, within an area of town that does not have many gems. It is refreshing to enter Espetus Churrascaria, as it is tasteful and warm with nice dark wood accents. It feels as though you are indeed in Brazil. We can say that from personal experience of being in Brazil. Everyone who works at Espetus Churrascaria, is warm and welcoming, one of the characteristics of Latins!
The Squirt: Amazing Food in a Chic Hollywood Atmosphere
Must Eats: Eva’s Avocado Guacamole, Shrimp & Chorizo Flatbread, Chili Rubbed Skirt Steak
We had an awesome experience at Beso in Hollywood, California. Beso is brought to us by Actress Eva Langoria and Chef Todd English and located right on Hollywood Boulevard. When Ren and I arrived, in the pouring rain, (Yes, it was pouring rain in Sunny Southern California) the valet attendants were extremely accommodating. The host was friendly and attentive as well and took us right away to our table. One could see he is used to seating many other celebrities besides the infamous Roy and Ren from TwoSquirts.com (hee hee). (more…)
The other day, we had a simply amazing dinner at Rosa Mexicano at LA Live in Los Angeles, California. Rosa Mexicano is one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants that we like to frequent whenever we can. We’ve been to a couple of their other locations – New York and Washington DC and every one of them is wonderful. This location is within the fairly new LA Live area in downtown Los Angeles which features several other eating establishments as well. (more…)
We all had a terrific dinner at Atlantic Manor Restaurant located in Ogdensburg, NJ. The restaurant is a blend of Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian Rodizio style menu selections. My mother, Ria, actually grew up in Ogdensburg, right down the street from the restaurant and even went to the School across the street! All of these years of visiting relatives and friends in Ogdensburg, we never found any real notable restaurants in Ogdensburg, and more often, no restaurants at all. It was truly a surprise when our friend, Barbara K., recommended that we try a new restaurant that had opened recently and looked nice from the window in Ogdensburg. Her son lives not too far from there. Thank you, Barbara for the tip. (more…)
The Squirt: Great BYOB restaurant for truly delicious authentic Mexican Food!
Must Eat: Guacamole Nachos
We had our typically great experience last night at Tortuga’s Mexican Village, located in Princeton, NJ. We were joined by our friends, Jean and Bob for this event.
Tortuga’s Mexican Village (TMV) is a small neighborhood authentic Mexican Restaurant, on a little side street near Princeton Hospital. It has been a landmark there for over 20 years. One thing to remember before you go there, is to have cash on hand, being that it is a cash-only restaurant and be prepared to hunt for a parking spot on the local streets. (more…)
Paseo Cantina is located in Pasadena, California. We were walking around for the afternoon in Pasadena and happened to come by this place. For days, we had been craving good authentic Mexican food and that is exactly what we were in for. It was lunch time on Sunday when we spotted them at the top of the escalator in the Paseo Colorado Mall. There happened to be a big private Sunday Brunch party with Mariachi Singers and Dancers going on. That is what drew us in. All of the festivity reminded us of all the latin weddings we’d enjoyed so much over the years. Latins really do like to have fun! Anyway, we couldn’t resist walking in and seeing if we could join the party. The restaurant is very big, and it has some really awesome artwork with scenes from various areas of Mexico. They also had some really interesting Mexican artifacts on display. We enjoyed looking at them all. (more…)
LUA is a Latin inspired restaurant located in Hoboken, New Jersey. Situated along the Hudson River, LUA has a breathtaking view of the New York City skyline and offers valet parking for its patrons for a fee. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very chic and stylish with a metropolitan feel to it. During the warmer months, there is outdoor seating, as there was last night. Those dining outside can enjoy their meals and libations as they enjoy the view. (more…)
